Well, at least it didn’t take as long as Duke Nukem Forever…

We’ve finally managed to update the game with an additional theme and new maps! Unfortunately there was an error with the original update that caused some people to lose their profile – huge apologies to anybody who’s been affected by this. :( Hopefully this should be fixed by the new update, and we hope that people enjoy the new levels.

2011 – more crabs!

So after a refreshing break we’re back working on the next update for Shrimpocalypse. The current plan is to add one new level theme, and additional maps, both for the new theme and for the existing ones. We’ll keep you posted!

In the meantime, check out this little fellow we met on holiday.

We didn’t shoot him (but only because he dug into the sand…possible new enemy? ;) )

Merry Christmas!

Apologies for the lack of updates (both in-game and on the blog) of late, both Mr Toast and myself have been a bit overloaded with the day jobs! However there will be a Christmassy update very soon, keep your eyes peeled!

Merry Christmas everyone*!

*Unless you don’t celebrate Christmas, in which case “Merry December!”

It’s coming!

The mythical mid-game save is on its way, we unfortunately suffered a bit of a setback when our SVN server died on its face! We’re just getting everything back up and running, so keep an eye out!

Happy Halloween!

Yes, it’s time for pumpkins, cheap witch outfits and eating sweets until you throw up! Not to mention that we’re having a Halloween Half Price sale – pick up the full version of Shrimpocalypse for half its usual price for five days only!

The power of MOVING PICTURES!

Gameplay footage now available!  Things that I learnt creating this video:

* Filming a mobile screen is harder than it looks

* Over enthusiastic tower placement sends the phone sliding

*  I need to upgrade my PC – it really struggled with Windows Movie Maker. :|

Sneaky 1.1.1

Apparently people on lower memory phones were having issues, we’ve dashed off, removed a few unused bits, downsized a lot of unnecessarily large textures. The apk is only 250k smaller, internally it’ll have a much smaller footprint though.

Let me know if you still have issues!

1.1 Patch Now Live

Huge patch, far too much to note in the little 325 character window I get on the Market Place.

Features

  • Achievements added.
  • Survival Mode added, with it’s own scoreboard.
  • Brand new tutorial.
  • New Game Modes section, as a hub to all the features.
  • Fish Based Turrets! Every turret has new graphics.

Improvements

  • Much more in the FREE version! There’s a bit of shop in there too now as a taster!
  • Optimizations for low end phones, the G1 was running around 20% faster in the benchmarks.
  • Effect added to the shockwave turret, to show where it’s hitting.
  • Less pixelated tower icons.
  • Graphical improvements in the shop.
  • Wake Lock now works like it does in most other games, it’ll stay on during play, but release if you hit Home or end a game.
  • Turrets now scale up as upgraded, the top rank has a special graphic too.
  • Going to the scoreboard will close the results panel, meaning when you click back you end up back at the Level Select. Changed to this to smooth up the game flow a little.
  • Reordered the towers, so a damaging tower is at both ends. This should hopefully stop the “simple tower doesn’t shoot” confusion we’ve had a lot of. Combined with the new tutorial this should be much clearer.

Bug Fixes

  • Sounds playing twice fixed.
  • Crashing out of the game in any way now won’t delete your save.
  • Ensured the coins display in the lobby is correct on returning to it from a game.
  • Fixed a potential crash caused by dragging on the screen instantly as you started a game.
  • Fixed a bug which meant towers could shoot without actually facingtheir target, slightly rebalanced to compensate.

Have fun! Email me directly at toasting@gmail.com if you spot any problems!

Top 20 Games for October!

At Toast Towers we’re currently chuffed to bits that we’ve made it onto AndroidPimp’s Top 20 Games for October! We’re nestling between Fast & Furious: Adrenaline HD and Soccer Superstars. It’s an interesting list, and demonstrates how versatile the Android market is – 3d and 2d games, games created by individuals or small teams, games created by full companies, cartoony games, photorealistic games, heavily stylised games, puzzle, strategy, sport, action, racing, crab-based tower defence…

Thought of the day: would an Android Pimp be a Pimp that happens to be an Android, or would it be a Pimp that pimps out Androids?

Update incoming!

We’ve been working on a fairly hefty update for Shrimpocalypse, which will include the following!

* New turret graphics! Crabs, snails, scampi, turtles and gulls – they’re all evil!  But not all sea creatures are evil – the fish have joined the battle and are fighting on YOUR side!  That, or you’ve cruelly transformed them into biological weapons to pack a psychological as well as physical punch against your enemies…

* Achievements! Can you get them all?

* Survival Mode! 50 waves just not enough?  Try infinite waves – how many can you take down before being overrun?

* Reordered UI! We had some complaints that there weren’t enough lives, and that the basic tower ‘didn’t shoot’.  We eventually realised the second point was because new players were dragging the air tower as their first tower, so this has been moved.  Hopefully this, along with the new tutorial, will reduce any confusion.

* New Tutorial! As the existing tutorial was a bit tl;dr, we’ve created an entirely new one.  With pictures.

* More features available in the Free version! You can now buy certain items from the shop.

* Improved performance! We’ve done some tweaks and optimisation, so the game will now run faster and smoother on older phones.

Work on the localisations has started, but we’re still in the process of testing them – keep an eye out for them in future updates.

1.1 will be going live early this week!
